The District Forest Office Zunheboto conducted a meeting and sensitization programme in Tsuruhu Village under the Satoi Connect initiative of the Zunheboto Forest Division. The team visited Hokiye and Tsuruhu villages under the Satoi Range on August 29 and 30, engaging with village elders, youth, and community members. As part of the outreach, officials undertook a two-day, 12-hour trek from Hokiye to Tsuruhu, highlighting the department’s commitment to community-based conservation.
Obed Bohevi Swu, DFO Zunheboto highlighted that the initiative aims to strengthen forest-community relationships and promote sustainable environmental practices in the region and boost tourism.
“We have to do something for this people and place in conservative the biodiversity of this place. We want to help people and find alternatives ways for the people so that we can conserve and protect the forest. Help people through eco tourism, we want to help people and hope that this initiative will be a successful one and we seeks support from the public," he said.
The DFO urged people to plan a visit and said that they would be happy to host them and show them around Satoi range. "Satoi can definitely become the next eco tourism hub where locals population will have a hand to conserve biodiversity and at the same time earn a livelihood through ecotourism, homestays, by being guides and local food production," he added. He further stated that there are many historical places that could attract tourists.
