Four faculties from NU feature in Stanford’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list

LUMAMI, September 23 (MExN): The Nagaland University (NU) today informed that four of its faculty members have been featured in the ‘World’s Top 2% Scientists List’ prepared by Stanford University.

In a statement, the University described the development as a reinforcement of its “growing stature in the global research community and its commitment to scientific excellence for societal advancement.”

The four professors in the 2025 list are Prof Ambrish Singh, Department of Chemistry; Prof Joginder Singh, Department of Botany; Prof Prabhakar Sharma, Department of Agricultural Engineering and Technology; and Prof Pranav Kumar Prabhakar, Department of Biotechnology.

In addition, Prof Ambrish and Prof Pranav Kumar have also been featured in the exclusive Career-Long Top 2% Scientists category, which honours researchers whose lifetime body of work has consistently shaped and advanced global scientific knowledge, the statement noted.

As per the University, Prof Ambrish, who has been a Visiting Professor at al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakhstan, and the University of Science and Technology, Beijing, is a leading researcher in corrosion science, electrochemistry, nanomaterials, and green inhibitors, with over 200 publications.

Specialising in plant-microbe interactions, bioremediation, and environmental microbiology, Prof Joginder’s research focuses on harnessing microbial systems for sustainable agriculture, waste management, and environmental protection, it said.

Prof Prabhakar’s research relates to aquifer storage and recovery for groundwater management, biochar application for soil erosion control and water purification, and sampling, characterisation and mitigation of microplastic pollution.

Focusing on developing therapeutic interventions targeting diabetes, obesity, and cancer pathways, Prof Pranav works in the fields of diabetes, metabolic disease, cancer biology, and molecular biotechnology.

Meanwhile, the NU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, expressed the University’s appreciation to the faculty members, adding: “Their inclusion in this prestigious list will inspire our students and researchers to pursue excellence and strengthen the University’s vision of advancing world-class research.”

As per the statement, the ‘World’s Top 2% Scientists’ list, compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier, identifies researchers with the most significant global impact, representing only the top 2% across 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields. Rankings are based on a composite citation index (c-score), derived from six bibliometric indicators, including total citations, h-index, and citations to first, last, or single-author papers, it added.

As per reports, a total of , 6,239 Indian faculty have been featured in the list under the single-year category.

NU, the 13th Central University in India and the only Central University in Nagaland, officially came into being on September 6, 1994, and at present operates on three campuses, viz. Lumami Headquarters, Kohima Campus at Meriema, and Medziphema Campus (School of Agricultural Sciences).

There are 43 departments offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programmes in different disciplines of Arts, Commerce, Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering & Technology, and Management streams. Currently, 76 colleges from across Nagaland are affiliated with Nagaland University.
