Good roads crucial for eco development: Sukhalu

Zunheboto, January 11 (MExN): KT Sukhalu, IAS (Retd), Advisor, School Education today stated that good roads are crucial for economic development and growth.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Zunheboto Area Sports Association’s (ZASA) 33rd U Kukami Trophy on January 11, he stated that good roads bring important social benefits and also provides access to employment, social, health and education services and affirmed that quality of work in roads shouldn't be compromised. 

The opening ceremony was held along with the DSCZ rostrum inauguration was held at Zunheboto District Sports Council ground on January 11. 

Sukhalu stated that development for strengthening and carpeting of three major town roads within Zunheboto town has been sanctioned by the Chief Minister and also assured that more project for developmental activities are afoot.

He reminded that construction of two lane road from Chakabama to Zunheboto was being hampered due to many demands by the landowners and miscreants which is affecting the progress work of the contractors and as such called upon civil societies to ensure such illegal activities be checked and stopped immediately. He requested the District Administration and Police to deploy police personnels and take stern action against anyone disturbing and delaying the construction work.

He further urged the executive engineer NH to ensure that the contactors implement the project as per the specifications in the work order. He warned that if any lapses by the authority resulting in compromising the quality of work the officers or the contractors will be held accountable and penalized.

He meanwhile lauded the organisers, ZASA for giving their best effort to develop and encourage young people in the field of sports through their annual sports and cultural meet.

He asserted that sports is an important component of every individual, society and country and that in one way or the other everyone is involved in sports- through participation or as spectators. Calling on the players he reminded that there are two kinds of sports- individual and team sports. He reminded the assembled teams about the importance of fostering team unity and spirit of sportmanship.

Expounding on the motto of ZASA ‘Friendship through Sports’, he said that sports develops camaraderie, mutual trust and sportsmanship which aids decision making and sharpens ones thinking process. He urged the sportspersons to play for the team rather than seeking individual accomplishment. 

Earlier the dedication prayer was pronounced by Rev Dr S Yevito Sumi, retired Senior Pastor, SBCZ and the newly constructed DSCZ Rostrum was inaugurated by KT Sukhalu, Advisor School Education. The vote of thanks was proposed by Hekato V Chairman District Sports Council Zunheboto where he lauded KT Sukhalu under whose leadership the “iconic project” was completed quickly in just a span of 9 months.

The program was chaired by Amenli Yepthomi; oath taking was administered by Kaviho Khujumi, Sports Secretary, ZASA, and KT Sukhalu unfurled the flag and declared the 33rd-U Kukami Hoho Trophy ZASA open.
