Dimapur, November 4 (MExN): The ICAR Research Complex for NE Hill Region (Nagaland Centre) in collaboration with KVK Dimapur and the department of agriculture, Chümoukedima, organised a field day programme on ‘Quality Rice Seed Production’ at Dhansiripar village, Chümoukedima on November 3.

In a press release issued by KVK Dimapur, it stated that the programme was aimed at promoting the high-yielding paddy variety RC Maniphou-7 and to sensitize farmers on scientific seed production practices.

The district agriculture officer, Chümoukedima, Moainla Pongen graced the programme as the chief guest wherin Pongen spoke about the concept of developing seed villages, urging farmers to become self-sufficient in seed production rather than depending on external agencies, it stated. 

At the same time, it stated that Pongen expressed appreciation for the efforts of ICAR and KVK Dimapur in their continued support in strengthening local farming systems.

As part of the programme, two pedal-operated paddy threshers were distributed to participating farmers to promote mechanization and ease post-harvest operations, it stated.

Likewise, Dr. Harendra Verma, Scientist, ICAR Nagaland Centre, in his address, emphasized the importance of adopting scientific practices in paddy cultivation, highlighting the superior traits of RC Maniphou-7 including its high yield potential, good grain quality and adaptability to local conditions. 

It stated that Dr. Verma encouraged farmers to adopt this variety for quality seed production and to enhance profitability.
