‘Include private colleges in RUSA scheme’: PCAN

Dimapur, July 15 (MExN): The Private College Association Nagaland (PCAN) today stated that despite “repeated requests and appeals,” private colleges were shut out by the State Government from benefiting under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) which has a funding pattern of 90:10.

In this connection, the Association in a letter to the Chief Minister requested for the inclusion of these institutions under the scheme.

RUSA was introduced in 2013 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development with the key objectives to improve access, equity and quality in higher education through planned development of higher education at the state level. RUSA 1.0 is over and RUSA 2.0 ended on March 31, 2020, it pointed out.

Stating that private colleges are willing to contribute the 10% share if the State Government has difficulty in providing its share, the association again requested the Government to consider including the private colleges under RUSA.

Further, it said that while government colleges are insulated financially, the private colleges have been immediately and directly hit as they were neither able to conduct scheduled semester exams in April nor take in new admissions in May. “If this situation continues, we fear that we may be compelled to grant to our faculty and staff, leave without pay, lay off employees etc,” the letter stated.
