Farmers with officials and others during the intra state exposure tour cum interaction programme organised from December 17 to 19.

Peren, December 22 (MExN): KVK Peren, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jalukie organized three-day intra state exposure tour cum interaction programme at ICAR-Nagaland Centre, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Integrated Dairy Unit, Urra Village, Dimapur; Integrated farm at NICRA Adopted village Dhansaripar, Dimapur and Integrated Piggery farm at Vidima from December 17 to 19.
The programme funded by NABARD, Dimapur aimed to enable the participants from different places to interact with each other, witness and learn by seeing the scientific technologies and farming models related to agriculture, Animal husbandry and fisheries that has been developed and practiced by different research institutes and also different successful farming models developed by agripreneurs.
Dr L Babita Devi, Senior Scientist & Head (I/C), KVK Peren in a press release stated that Dr Jyotish Barman, Scientist (Fishery) and Dr Aabon Yanthan, Scientist (Horticulture), led the farmers and demonstrated on different component of intensive integrated farming system, Ornamental fish unit, Mushroom production unit, floriculture and plantation crop unit, vegetable and fruit orchards, vermicompost units, Piggery, poultry, Dairy as well as Rabbitary units at ICAR Nagaland Centre.
At ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr S Stephen Hanah (Scientist) and Dr Kubo Khate (Farm Manager) explained in details about the different farm routines at Mithun farm and usefulness and utility of Mithun. A video on Mithun farming was also shown to the participants.
During the visit, the participants were taken to successfully established integrated dairy unit (Dairy unit, Fodder plot, silage unit), Integrated Piggery unit (Piggery, fishery, Banana, King chilli, Toria and fodder plot) and Integrated farming unit (Low cost Rain water harvesting unit, Vegetable Demo unit, Nursery unit) at Urra village, Vidima and Dhansaripar, Dimapur.
Interactions were also held conducted to discuss about how the unit was established in spite of difficulties and challenges faced. Successful progressive farmers shared their ideas and hard work in establishing the units and encouraged the participants to be dedicated and start with small units. Farmers to farmers interaction, group discussion meeting and interaction programme with the experts were also done, the release added.
The programme was led by Dr L Babita Devi, Head (I/C), Z James Kikon (ACTO, Soil Sc) and Dr Patu Khate Zeliange (ACTO, PBG), KVK Peren. Altogether, 25 participants from Jalukie, Jalukielo, Jalukiekam, Beisempuikam, Jalukieram, Azailong, Nkialwa and New Chalkot villages of Peren district participated in the exposure tour.
