IUN to launch Naturopathy and Physiotherapy OPD in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 17 (MExN): The International University, Nagaland, will inaugurate its Outpatient Department (OPD) and Treatment Centre in Naturopathy, Physiotherapy and Pathology on October 10, coinciding with United Nations-sponsored World Mental Health Day, at its 7th Mile campus.

Informing this, Dr. Roopam Bachhil, Registrar, said the university said the facility will be equipped with ultramodern equipment for the treatment of chronic diseases and will be fully operational from the day of inauguration.

Dr Zavise Rume, Director of Vocational Education at the university, said patients and individuals seeking to maintain good health are welcome to avail the services at the OPD and Treatment and Investigation Centre.

He noted that Dimapur, as Nagaland’s commercial hub, has seen rising cases of lifestyle-related health issues due to urbanisation, sedentary habits and stress disorders, and there is growing demand for holistic, non-invasive treatment. The OPD and Treatment Centre, he said, is aimed at addressing these challenges sustainably and accessibly.

Dr Rume explained that naturopathy emphasises prevention and the body’s inherent ability to heal using therapies such as diet, exercise, hydrotherapy, fasting and herbal medicine, while physiotherapy supports rehabilitation, pain management and mobility improvement.

Together, they provide a drug-free and cost-effective alternative to conventional medicine. He pointed out that there is a significant gap in structured naturopathy and physiotherapy services in Dimapur, with most residents depending on traditional medicine or travelling outside for treatment. The new centre, staffed by qualified professionals, will provide regular consultations, preventive care and therapeutic interventions, benefitting the elderly, persons with disabilities, athletes and patients recovering from surgeries or strokes.

According to him, the centre is also expected to promote wellness practices and healthy lifestyles among the community, particularly in tackling non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and arthritis.
