Dimapur, August 30 (MExN): The Khelo India Asmita Women’s League Dimapur Leg got underway at the JV Foundation Basket Court, Signal, Dimapur on August 30. Vitoto Chishi, former state player graced the inaugural as special guest. 

The Asmita Women’s League is a program under Khelo India to promote sports among women in India. In association with Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Basketball Federation of India, the league aims to to increase the participation of women in Sports by organising various leagues, to utilise the leagues as a platform for identification of new talents, evaluation of existing Khelo India athletes and to provide competition exposure to women athletes of different age categories across the Country.

In the inaugural match, All Blacks (Kohima) trounced Elite A (Dimapur) 16-2 in regulation time. Reena of All Blacks scored 7 points. The second match saw Elite B (Dimapur) easily defeat Splendid (Jalukie) 9 - 1. In the third match of Round-1, Orca's Sosen scored 4 points to lead Orca (Kohima) in a close win against TMB (Kohima) by a solitary point, 8-7. 

The Dimapur leg of 3x3 basketball tournament will be part of a 50 cities programme over looked by the Basketball Federation of India and its associate members across India. Dimapur city league is organised by Dimapur District Basketball Association in collaboration with Nagaland Basketball Association.
