Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC), Y Kikheto Sema, IAS has called upon the people to adopt the method of integrated settled farming in the state for doubling the income and year round produce.
Kikheto on his return journey from Mon after holding meeting with the District Administration and political parties as the Electoral Roll Observer stopped at Langmeing village, Aboi on December 14 and interacted with the farmers.
He highlighted to the farmers about the Naga model of integrated settled farming and said land should be utilized to the optimum for doubling income and year round produce. He noted that most of the Naga farming practise was seasonal and the land is laid bare once the season for a praticular crop is over. “However, in integrated farming we are encouraging cultivation of variety of crops with different seasons in an identified area where piggery, fishery, poultry can also be taken up,” he told the farmers.
The APC directed the agri department officers to survey the area for integrated farming and as to which agri and allied departments could converge for the same.
Kikheto also laid emphasis on progress self sufficiency within villages, blocks and districts.
