Kiphire district launches COVID-19 vaccination drive

Kiphire, January 18 (MExN): The Medical Department, Kiphire launched the COVID-19 vaccination drive at District Hospital Kiphire (DHK) on January 18.

The vaccine was launched by Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS, in the presence of District Administration, Police, Medical department, and public leaders. 

Speaking at the launching programme, the DC said the coming of COVID-19 vaccine to Kiphire was a welcome news for everyone. “People have become complacent and that the fear of Covid-19 has gone down leading to many people not ready to take the vaccine,” the DC stated.

However, stating that long term effects of the COVID-19 infection are harmful he urged the people to take the vaccine which is safe and found to be quite effective. The DC emphasised on dissemination of proper information to the general public regarding the vaccination and urged the media personnel, civil society organisations, and church leaders to sensitise the public.

The Medical Superintendent of DHK, Dr Bendangsenla Ao and District Programme Officer (RCH/UIP), Dr K Pewezo Khalo also spoke at the programme during which they appeal the people to come forward and take the vaccine positively maintaining that the vaccine will help the district in the fight against COVID-19.

Dr Apise, Secretary, USBLA pronounced the invocation while vote of thanks was proposed by District Programme Manager (NHM), Limawati Sangtam. Altogether, 24 beneficiaries from Kiphire Sadar were vaccinated on the first day, during which Dr Bendangsenla Ao, Medical Superintendent DHK, was the first to be vaccinated.
