DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 5 (MExN): The Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) has expressed profound gratitude to the Government of Nagaland for taking a “serious and timely initiative” to review and reform the existing State Job Reservation Policy.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the KNSK said the long-anticipated move reflects the Government’s commitment to addressing the people’s concerns over fairness and justice within the reservation framework.
The organisation also extended solidarity to the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), which has been consistently advocating for a review of the policy to restructure it in proportion to the actual population ratio.
According to the KNSK, the current pattern of distribution does not accurately reflect demographic realities, thereby undermining the principles of justice and equity upon which the reservation system was founded.
“The original intent of the reservation policy was to uplift the weaker sections of society and bridge the gap with more advanced groups. However, over the years, the system has failed to fulfil this purpose and has instead widened disparities,” it stated.
The KNSK pointed out that although the Konyak community constitutes 13.90 per cent of Nagaland’s total population, its share in government employment stands at only 2.80 per cent.
In this context, the organisation reiterated its strong endorsement of the Konyak Students’ Union’s “rightful and democratic demand” for a comprehensive review and restructuring of the job reservation policy to ensure fair representation and justice for all.
It further urged the State Government to carry out the review process transparently and within a definite timeframe to uphold true equity and justice.
