KVYO threatens to prohibit Hornbill functions in Kohima

Calls govt’s decision to shift venue on security ground as ‘unreasonable’

Dimapur, November 11 (MExN): The Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) today described the State Government’s decision to shift the Hornbill Rock Festival to Dimapur citing security reasons as “utterly shocking” and threatened to ban all Hornbill functions in Kohima city.

Where were the security lapses? the KVYO asked in a press release maintaining that, the Hornbill Festival functions, confined only in Kohima before, were held without any security threat for years.

“It has deeply hurt the denizens of Kohima city,” it said adding that, “Kohima city belong the Naga people, though the Kohima village has graciously donated its land for the state capital city.”

The KVYO further pointed out that it is not opposed to spreading Hornbill festival to other districts, but termed the government’s decision to shift the venue citing security reasons as “unreasonable and unbecoming of a state government who run the affairs of the day to day.”

If the state government shifts the venue from Kohima city, the youth organisation will have no choice but to ban all the night activities in Kohima city during the festival, stated the press release issued by KVCO President Medozhatuo Rutsa and General Secretary Ruokuoneitso Kire.

The annual Hornbill Festival is scheduled from December 1-10.
