Longleng, May 29 (MExN): A district-level meeting of the District Tuberculosis Forum and the District AIDS Prevention and Control Committee (DAPCC) was held at the DPDB Meeting Hall, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Longleng, on May 29 to review the status of public health initiatives in the district.
The meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, W Manpai Phom.
Dr Temsusashi, DTO, who chaired the programme, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner and welcomed all members present. He briefly outlined the objectives and aims of the District TB Forum and the DAPCC while highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts and community participation in strengthening tuberculosis and AIDS control initiatives in the district.
He also highlighted various government initiatives available for TB patients, including free diagnosis and treatment, nutritional support and honorarium for treatment supporters.
Tongang, STS, shared updates on the intensive 100 Days TB Mukt Bharat campaign, which is currently ongoing at the village level with a focus on asymptomatic cases.
Lita, DIS, presented the current scenario of AIDS in Longleng district.
State Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, SSHAKTI, Kabit, also spoke on Mission AIDS Suraksha, describing it as an intensified public health initiative launched by the Government of India to attain HIV/AIDS epidemic control and make all districts “Surakshit Plus”.
He informed that India aims to achieve HIV control by December 2027 and said the mission aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals. He added that the programme relies on grassroots execution through strategic targets under the 95-95-99 framework and accelerated micro-planning being implemented in 15 districts in Nagaland to improve testing, treatment linkage and adherence.
A narrative on TI-NGO activities was also shared by Hampong Yingli of Yingli Mission Society, Longleng.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the work and performance of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Longleng.
He said the objective of the meeting was to discuss in detail the steps, procedures and measures required to work towards eliminating tuberculosis and controlling HIV/AIDS within the district.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the importance of awareness and addressing the stigma associated with TB and HIV and called upon line departments and other sectors to coordinate closely with the health department.
He also urged NGOs and civil society organisations to involve the community through awareness programmes and activities for better detection and prevention.
He concluded by stating that the functions and responsibilities of the committee must remain continuous and consistent for effective results.
The meeting concluded with discussions on issues and challenges faced, along with a call for strengthened coordination among departments and stakeholders to collectively achieve the intended goals.
Among those present at the meeting were the EAC Headquarters Longleng, EAC Sakshi, DRDA officials, representatives from the Phom People’s Council, Phomla Hoichem, Yingli Mission Society, and officials from the District Health Society, Longleng.
