Manipur CM Biren Singh inspects flood relief camps

Newmai News Network Imphal | June 17 Manipur Chief Minister, Biren Singh visited Maiba Khul and Mongjam Village of Imphal East district and met the flood victims of the area today. He also inspected the flood relief camps at Maiba Khul Primary School and Mongjam Mamang Leikai.   Briefing media persons, the CM informed that he had a telephonic talk with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and briefed about the current flood situation in the State. He had asked the Home Minister to extend immediate flood assistance for the flood victims of the State, he added.   The CM stressed, "We can’t wait for the Flood Relief Fund to get the assistance as the flood assistance process may take some time." The State government has asked for immediate financial assistance for rebuilding the houses of the flood affected people, repair and reconstruction of roads etc. immediately, he added. Biren further said the Union Home Minister has already directed the Home Secretary to provide immediate help for the flood affected people of the State. Mentioning that he couldn’t attend the NITI Aayog meeting due to the current flash flood in the State, he however said the flood situation would be discussed in the said meeting.   Biren mentioned around 22 houses have been inundated and 120 people displaced due to the flood in the Maiba Khul and Mongjam Village, Imphal East District. The district administration has taken up various measures to help the flood victims in the area. Medical teams are being sent to the flood affected areas. Portable toilets would be constructed in Maiba Khul and Mongjam Village, he added.   Mentioning that people are facing hard times due to the flash flood, the CM said that the government is trying its best to control the situation and extend every possible help to the flood victims. He thanked Minister Karam Shyam, MLA Susindro Meitei, Army personnel, newly recruited police personnel for their relentless effort and dedication in repairing of breached river embankments. He appealed the people of the State to take precautionary measures from the post flood diseases.  

Association donatesto CM's Relief Fund

Imphal, June 17 (NNN): The All Manipur Government Aided College Teachers’ Association today met Chief Minister Biren Singh at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and donated Rs 1,00,000 towards the CM Relief Fund to help people who were severely affected by the recent floods. The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the teachers for their generosity to help the flood affected people of the State. It may be mentioned that hundreds of families are displaced and houses have been inundated by flood due to incessant rains in various areas of the State.
