Phek DPDB reviews poor exam results, Census 2027 preparations

Phek, June 22 (MExN): The Phek District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) on June 19 held an extensive discussion on the poor performance of government schools in the HSLC and HSSLC examinations during its monthly meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall.

According to a DIPR update, the meeting was chaired by Nagaland Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs and DPDB Chairman K.G. Kenye.

Addressing the members, Kenye highlighted the significance of the District Planning and Development Boards in facilitating communication between the government and people at the grassroots level. He encouraged departmental officers to attend official meetings regularly and actively participate in discussions to help the government better understand local needs and concerns.

Sharing the state's financial position, the minister urged officers of developmental departments to ensure the judicious utilisation of funds meant for development activities and beneficiaries for the welfare of the people.

Senior Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO), Phek, presented the factors contributing to the poor performance of government schools in the HSLC and HSSLC examinations.

During the deliberations, members discussed measures to improve academic outcomes, including a proposal for adoption of schools by DPDB members.

The board also considered an agenda pertaining to the installation of a video conferencing facility in the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall and recommended the proposal to the government for final approval.

Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Rhosietho Nguori, and EAC and Census Nodal Officer, Er. Mechietsho Koza, briefed the members on various aspects of census operations. The board subsequently reviewed ongoing preparations and activities related to Census 2027 in the district.

The meeting also discussed the status of the Pfutsero-Phek road, which is in the process of being handed over from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to the State Roads and Bridges Department.

Executive Engineers of the Roads and Bridges Departments of Pfutsero and Phek divisions apprised the board of the current status of the road. Kenye informed the members that he would take up the matter with the government for sanction of funds for maintenance of the road.

The Department of Social Welfare and Women Development and the Department of Food and Civil Supplies also made presentations on their activities and programmes being implemented in the district.
