Imphal, November 12 (NNN): Kuki Student Organisation-General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) and All Naga Student Association Manipur (ANSAM) have urged the State Government of Manipur to take up concrete steps for the regularization of contract teachers who are being “discriminated and marginalized”. In a joint statement, the two student bodies said that a consultative meeting was held today at Tribal Research Institute (TRI) Hall in Imphal by leaders of Kuki Student Organisation-General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ), All Naga Student Association Manipur (ANSAM) and the hill contract teachers 2006 batch to discuss the contract teachers’ demand for regularisation of their services. According to the statement, about 200 contract teachers attended the meeting, which discussed the grievances of the teachers “who have every right to assert their demand for regularisation because the same contract teachers of Heirok High School had been regularised a year ago,” it added. The two student organisations then said they took “strong exception” of the shortage of teachers in the schools of the hill areas. “In fact the acute shortage of teachers in the hill areas of the state could be ameliorated if the service of the contract teachers of 2006 batch are regularized,” KSO-GHQ and ANSAM added.
