Jungle fire has reportedly erupted above Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on March 6 evening.

A massive jungle fire has reportedly erupted above Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on March 6 evening.
Locals informed that the fire may have started around 4:00 pm and were alerted by high rise smoke.
The exact location where the fire started may not be determined but it is suspected to be above viewpoint of Angami Students’ Union (ASU) at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama where jhum fields are visible before reaching Rhododendron Resort.
Speaking to an official of Fire Station, South, Kohima, it was further informed that, the jungle fire around 7:30 pm in the evening was heading up.
While casualty or loss of property was reported, the fire poses concern for destruction of jungle and Biodiversity.
According to the official, fire tender, 6 fire department personnel and volunteers from adjacent villages including Phesama and Kigwema had arrived at the scene.
However, it was informed that the fire have gone beyond the approachable road.
While the cause of fire has not been known, it is suspected to be due to burning of jungle and escalated by the dry and windy season.
It maybe reiterated that local village functionaries have put blanket ban on burning of jungle fire with penalty and punishment as per existing laws.
