The Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) has decided to hold a mass rally in Shillong on November 9 over the state government’s failure to fulfill their demands.

Taking to the reporters here today, president of MSSASA Aristotle Rymbai said that the association had already organized various protests in the past few months yet till date the state government had never called the teachers for discussion which indicates that the education department is not bothered on the plight of the teachers which they face every day for the last four months.

“This adamant attitude has led us to take this decision to organize a mass rally on the 9 of November in Shillong and if the state government continues to pay deaf ears to our demand we will continue to organize various agitation programs in the future,” said Rymbai.

Rymbai said that the demands of the MSSASA are not only to release their long-pending salary but also to regularize all SSA teachers in the state and also to implement the pay scales of the teachers according to the prescribed norms of the Right to Education (RTE).

He added that there are 12541 SSA teachers in the state and for the last four months the teachers have to face so many difficulties due to the non-release of their salary by the state government. On the other hand, Rymbai informed that the MSSASA previously had met education minister Lahkmen.

Rymbui yet till date they have never received any positive response from his side which indicates that he as the head of the department is least bothered about the plight of the teachers.

Rymbai said that according to the prescribed norms of RTE 2009 Chapter-3 and Section 7 Clause (1), Section Clause (VII), it clearly stated that all state governments must reserve special corpus funds for the payment of salary until the central government releases the sanctioned amount to the state government but till date state government has never had any special corpus funds to pay the SSA teachers salary.

In this regard, the president of MSSASA said that they have filed an RTI complaint to the ministry of education and in days time they will receive the report and everything will come clear on the stand of the state government.
