Morung Express News Mokokchung | September 23 Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School (MGHSS) today won the Inter Secondary & Higher Secondary School Football Tournament 2017 organized by Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) after an exciting match at the Imkongmeren Sports Stadium here today. The champions - MGHSS – defeated Senayangba Govt Higher Secondary School (SGHSS) 1-0. Both the teams were equally strong and played in a spirited manner as the students from both the schools and the general public applauded from the galleries. The first half was deadlocked 0-0, which saw both the teams missing some good chances as the midfields tried unsuccesfully to set up scoring opportunities. However, it was MGHSS that dominated most of the first half. The second half also witnessed exciting play, especially after Tsuktikumzuk (Jersey No 9) of MGHSS breached the defense line to scored in the 62nd minute. Play tempo picked up following the goal sparking a spirited counterattack from SGHSS. The MGHSS defence proved to be too strong to breach. As the final 90 minutes came to an end, the verdict was already out: MGHSS won. The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 20,000 plus a trophy and certificates, while the runner-up was given Rs 10,000 and certificates. There were also individual prizes:Highest goal scorer: Moazulu (MGHSS) Best Defender: Ledongchem (NCRS) Best goalkeeper: Temjenyuba (Children School) Best player: Baliba (MGHSS)
Meanwhile, the final match was witnessed by District Youth Co-ordinator , Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mokokchung, John Makhabo as the chief guest. After the tournament, the students from Nagaland Christian Residential School cleaned up the ground which was highly appreciated by the MDFA and also the general public.
