Military, paramilitary vehicles told to comply with NH-2 traffic suspension

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 13 (MExN): The Kohima district administration on Saturday reiterated that all forms of traffic, including military and paramilitary vehicles, will remain suspended on the affected stretch of National Highway-2 near Phesama between 10 am and 2 pm daily to facilitate restoration work.

In an order, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Kohima said the restriction will remain in force on the affected portion of the highway between Chainage KM 192.050 and KM 192.150 until further notice. The order stated that the suspension of traffic movement during the notified hours was necessary to allow restoration and balance works to continue and warned that vehicular movement during heavy rainfall would also be suspended due to the risk of landslides.

It noted that despite an earlier order on September 3 permitting only partial opening of the highway, frequent violations by military and paramilitary vehicles had caused traffic congestion and disrupted ongoing works. The DC directed all concerned authorities to strictly adhere to the regulations in the interest of public safety and early completion of the restoration works.
