Mokokchung, September 7 (MExN): The District Youth Resources & Sports (DYRS) Office, Mokokchung, has announced the Mokokchung District Level Youth Festival, scheduled to be held on September 23, 2026, as part of efforts to showcase and nurture young talent across the district.
The one-day festival will feature competitive events in three categories—Folk Song, Folk Dance, and Declamation—open to individuals, clubs, cultural troupes, higher secondary schools, and colleges from across the district. Interested participants have been asked to submit their letters of interest to the DYRS office on or before September 21, 2026.
Eligibility for all events is restricted to participants aged between 15 and 29 years. Winners at the district level will proceed to an online screening round, from which the best eight individuals or teams per event across Nagaland will be selected to represent their districts at the State Level Youth Festival in Kohima. State-level participants are required to report in Kohima on September 28, with competitions scheduled for September 29 and departure on September 30.
Participants selected for the state level must present their Aadhaar card during registration. Travel and daily allowances will be reimbursed as per government-approved rates.
For the Folk Dance group event, teams of up to 10 members (boys, girls, or mixed) must perform a primitive or traditional folk dance—ballets are strictly prohibited. Performances are limited to 15 minutes, with an additional five minutes for stage setup. Live music is mandatory; pre-recorded tracks are not allowed. Teams must submit three copies of a brief note explaining the theme and song text at registration and are responsible for clearing their own sets after performing. Judging will be based on rhythm, choreography, costumes, makeup, sets, and overall effect.
The Folk Song event, also a group competition, requires traditional Indian folk songs in any regional language. Film songs and medleys are barred. Each performance is limited to seven minutes, with up to five minutes for setup.
The Declamation event is a solo competition on the theme “Youth, Skills and a Self-Reliant Nagaland.” Speeches must be delivered in either English or Hindi, with a maximum time limit of five minutes per participant.
