Unless, one is willing to tread paths where even angels fear, the Nagas will continue to be enslaved and haunted by the past demons. The true testimonies of surviving pioneers of the Naga struggle is found much desirable at this crucial juncture so that whatever that went wrong may be put to rest by calling “spade a spade” and also to not bequeath the legacy of animosity to the younger generations.
What we hear from elders is usually narrations of one’s past glory and denials or justification of one’s mistake always putting the blame on others. If the younger generation is to be nurtured in a way the elder desires with ready-made and biased information fully fed, we cannot even hope to do away with past’s hurt and prejudices which the younger generations are not responsible for.
Therefore, while the historical personalities are still alive, truth needed to be told without “mincing a word”, so that simmering reprisal feelings over injustices and bitterness committed against one another in the past may not resurface and destroy the edifice of the Naga struggle, which the modern generation Nagas truly deserve.
If the injuries inflicted could be healed by remaining silent and dormant on the part of the Naga veterans and elders, I for one would not seek unrevealed truth anymore. If the whole new process could be renewed without the historical basis of rights and wrongs acknowledged and reconciled, the quest for truth indeed would remain merely a curiosity without positive purpose.
The Sumi and Angami brothers share territory, boundary, matrimony, origin, history etc and cannot afford to ignore one another in any aspects. It is thus disappointing at times that unrepentant elders with past bad-blood at times threatens to destroy the harmonious existence of present and future productive modern generations between the two tribes. The attempts and intents of certain unsavoury elements to incite communalism over recent unfortunate incidents may be considered a portent potential to inflame tribalism.
Over and above this, it remains a bane to even speak of tribal tensions between the two blood brothers, Sumi and Angami, even though undergoing retributive inclination silently. It is thus in view to restore mutual blood relationship, any wrong doings and mis-conception may be brought to the open and resolve amicably as would any brothers do to others.
The fear to tread this sensitive issue I believe would do no good to either the two brothers or Naga struggle in general. Therefore, instead of watching and waiting the emotions to blow out of proportion, as pre-emptive effort, the elders of the two communities may lead the path of repentance and reconciliation and free the younger generation from this evil doom that looms over our head and with no one to mend the bridge.
If I am not too gross, casualness contrarily may be viewed as serious intent to absolve guilt once and for all and to begin a new chapter of peace, amity and just acceptance so that present and future generations does not have to be enslaved by systematically indoctrinated ideologies and mindsets of the past leaders.
To allow historical accounts be put into proper perspective, I humbly forward the surviving comrade of both the Sukhais, Inno.Toshiho Naga (personally requested and permission sought to forward his person), any doubts on the circumstances that surrounded NNC/FGN tumultuous days especially the escalation of crisis and eliminations of leaders like Gen.Kaito, Sakhrie etc from this gentleman.
Typological error on the first President NNC and Naga club is regretted.
