Dimapur, August 20 (MExN): All the Naga national leaders stationed in the Eastern Konyak jurisdiction have assured to live in peaceful co-existence, stating that they are ready to forgive and forget each other, informed the Konyak Union, Myanmar (KU-M).

In a press release received here, the KUM stated that the assurances were given during ‘Consultative Peace Mission Trips’ undertaken across the entire Eastern Myanmar Konyak jurisdiction from August 10-15.

The trips were scheduled after a meeting of the apex body KU, headquartered in Mon, with the KUM and Konyak Students’ Union (Myanmar) Consultative team, it said.

Thereafter, a team comprising KU(M) President PM Aman, General Secretary K Akham Honwang, Advisor SA Khotai, and KSU(M) President Chen Oh successfully completed the ‘Consultative Peace Mission Trips’ and met every Naga National worker or group, it added.

During the trips, the KU (M) “fervently” appealed to all Naga National Workers and leaders to maintain peace and unity, in line with the NSCN/GPRN motto “Nagaland for Christ” and the Government of the People's Republic of Nagaland, the release stated.

The team also urged for peace and unity among the different groups or governments and leaders, in accordance with their motto and nomenclature, as mandated by the early Naga political leaders, rather than engaging in factionalism, it noted.

According to the KU (M), the public is tirelessly appealing for a peaceful atmosphere in both the public domain and within the Naga National leadership, to safeguard the Naga aims and objectives from 1918, when the Naga Club was formed, recognising the Naga ‘race, culture, and blood’ as distinct from other human races in the world.

Accordingly, the Naga National leaders stationed in the Eastern Konyak jurisdiction stated their intention to live in peaceful co-existence with each other in the future, it added.

To this end, the KU (M) expressed gratitude to all Naga National workers for accepting and appreciating public appeals and acknowledging that past violent activities within Naga groups had created a fear psychosis among innocent people.

Meanwhile, the KU (M) also expressed its appreciation to the Ang Mai-led NSCN (K) for announcing formal peace talks with both the Indian and Myanmar governments on May 23.

The Eastern Konyak people appreciate the wisdom of Gen (Retired) Ang Mai, Vice President Nyeiton Konyak, and General Secretary Kughalu Mulatuno for considering the conditions of civilians as well as safeguarding the Naga National cause through peaceful means, it added.

In this connection, the Eastern Konyak public urged leaders to avoid a ‘piecemeal’ approach to peace talks and instead aim for implementation without bias across the entire Eastern Naga soil, particularly in the Konyak area.

This should include the cessation of ‘all forms of violent activities, or incidents of torturing, kidnapping, threatening, and factional clashes within and outside the common public domain by Naga National Workers,’ it said.

Peace should also include unity and development activities benefiting the public as well as Naga leaders, to achieve long-lasting Naga self-determination goals, it added.

The KU (M) further asserted that “Naga sovereignty should not be sold out just for peace, which is the birthright of the Naga as a whole” and must involve “India, Myanmar, and the Naga National Leaders.”

Peace should be practical, legal, and official, without any disturbance to civilian lives, it added.
