Ashgabat (Turkmenistan), September 23: Naga wrestler Keduovilie Zumu won bronze at the 5th Indoor & Martial Arts Games 2017 held at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from September 19 to 23. According to a press release from the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), Zumu won the medal in the Kazakh Kuresh style of belt wrestling in the 90kg category.
Zumu alongwith 5 other Naga wrestlers - Surhoneyi Soho, Visevo Zashumo, Vechita Khesoh, Menuosetuo Yiese and Venuzo Dawhuo were part of the Indian Belt Wrestling contingent that competed at the Ashgabat tournament. The Naga wrestlers were accompanied by NWA President Neivikuolie Khatsu and General Secretary Vekhozo as officials.
The release quoted Vekhozo as stating that the other wrestlers of the team competed well to reach the quarters and semi-finals bouts.
“It's a good exposure for NWA and for Naga style of wrestling as a very similar style is being promoted at the international level, stated Vekhozo while terming it as a great opportunity for Naga style wrestlers.
According to Vekhozo, this style of wrestling is very popular in the Central Asian countries of Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolian and also in Afghanistan. The tournament also had competitors from Pakistan and Thailand.
The NWA team is expected to reach Nagaland on September 27.
