Dimapur, September 18 (MExN): The Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA) today conducted the ‘Asmita Women’s League’ (formerly Khelo India Women’s League) in Dimapur, with 118 participants taking part in the road race events.
Organised in accordance with the directives from the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), the road race events were conducted for the female category – a 3km race for Under-16 Girls and a 5 km race for Women, informed by a press release from the NAA.
Out of the 118 participants, 89 were from the U16 Girls category, and 29 were from the Women's category who took part in the race, which flagged off from the Government Higher Secondary School ground, Half Nagarjan, Dimapur.
These participants represented 21 schools, 1 academy, and 1 college.
Tsuchoi T won the Women's 5km race, while Songmo P and Peiheiteile Esalung stood second and third. In the Girls U-16 3km race, Supei S secured the top spot, followed by Kevilenuo Kerhuo and Mehren Beck.
According to the release, ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestones by Inspiring Women Through Action) Women’s League is an initiative of the Sports Authority of India, under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The main aim of this women’s league is to foster gender equality and nurture the vibrant engagement of women in the realm of sports.
The AFI is currently organising Track & Field and Road events in 25 cities across India from September 17-20 under the league.
