Continuing with the BJP-NDPP bashing, the Congress accused the coalition government in Nagaland of having no concern for governance in Nagaland. “Neiphiu Rio's coalition government with the BJPs has not only proved to be corrupt but has also proved that it cannot give governance to people,” All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) Media Coordinator for Nagaland, Sujata Paul said at a press conference in Dimapur on January 27.
According to her, consolidating power by any means is the sole agenda of the BJP through the NDPP, while development parameters like roads, electricity, health and youth issues are of no concern to the coalition government. She held that the coalition partners are more concerned with seat-sharing, while the BJP is engrossed in in-fighting among ticket aspirants.
On the otherhand, “The problems of Nagaland will be solved by a government which understands the problem of Nagaland,” she claimed.
While stating that the BJP is pressuring the Rio-led NDPP into submission, she said that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio appears to be suppressed unable to speak out against the BJP. Meanwhile, “The seat sharing conflict is only bringing a bad name to politics. It shows that they don’t have faith in themselves. They don’t have the capacity to sort out their problems because they needed neighbouirng Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to come in and sort out their problems,” she said.
Further accusing the Rio government of allowing the BJP to take root in Nagaland, she said that the BJP used money power to decimate Nagaland and the regional parties.
Queried on the electoral prospects of the Congress in Nagaland, she replied that it would be up to the party leadership to decide. Despite the Congress unable to open an account in the 2018 polls, she was optimistic of the party “moving forward” in Nagaland.
Terming the Congress as the party that brought democracy to the country, she said that the party will never compromise on its ideological foundation.
On the claims that the BJP-led government has funneled more funds to Nagaland than the Congress-led UDA government, she said that this was misconception planted by BJP-led coalition. According to her, there was “flow of money for development” in Nagaland when the UDA was in power despite the state being ruled by a non-Congress government.
