Dental practitioners from across Nagaland gathered in Wokha for a one-day Continuing Oral & Dental Education (CODE) programme organised by the Indian Dental Association (IDA), Nagaland State Branch on June 6. The event aimed at enhancing professional knowledge and strengthening oral healthcare services in the state.

The programme brought together 62 dental doctors from government and private sectors, providing a platform for learning, professional interaction and the exchange of experiences within the dental fraternity.

Delivering an exhortation, retired Director of Dental Services, Dr Meribeni Odyuo underscored the importance of continuous professional development in a rapidly evolving field. She encouraged dental practitioners to “embrace lifelong learning while remaining committed to ethical practice, compassion and integrity.”

She noted that advancements in technology and treatment methods have transformed dentistry over the years, but stressed that “professional success ultimately depends on the trust earned from patients through honesty, humility and empathy.”

Technical sessions during the programme were led by Dr Hollo Ayemi and Dr Aneizo Khruomo, who presented papers on emergency management in dental services and the diagnosis and management of oral lesions. The sessions featured active participation from attendees through discussions and question-and-answer interactions.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr Mhao Jungio on behalf of the Wokha Dental Association, followed by a felicitation programme conducted by Dr Sevolu Tetseo, convenor of CODE.

Short addresses were also delivered by Dr N Moa Jamir, Joint Director (Dental), Dr I Arenla Walling, Director (Dental), and retired Dental Director Dr N Savino.

The event was chaired by Dr Myingthungo Ngullie, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Sevolu Tetseo. Organisers stated that the programme reflected the dental fraternity’s collective effort to promote professional excellence and improve oral healthcare delivery across Nagaland.
