Nagaland: Diesel crosses Rs 98 a litre in 3 districts; Rs 96 in State's capital

Diesel crossed Rs 98 in three districts of Nagaland while it was retailing for Rs 96.12 a litre in State’s capital Kohima on October 11 as continued surge of fuel rates took the retail prices of petrol and diesel to record high levels across the country.

Accordingly, in three districts of Nagaland - Tuensang, Kiphire and Noklak, a litre of diesel was selling above Rs 98 in Indian Oil Corporation outlets, just a rupee and few paise away from breaching the psychological Rs 100-a-litre mark on Monday. 

The highest was in Tuensang at Rs 98.32 litre, followed by Kiphire (Rs 98.29) and Noklak (Rs 98.24), as per the information on per the IndianOil ONE app. The fuel rates were hiked for 7th straight day on October 11.

If the recent trend persists, the diesel prices will cross the mark in two or three days.

In Dimapur, where fuel is cheapest in Nagaland, a litre of diesel was retailing at Rs 95.31.

Meanwhile, a litre of  petrol, which first crossed the Rs 100-a litre mark on June 26 in Tuensang and Kiphire, was retailing respectively at Rs 106.28 and Rs 106.20 per litre on October 11 while it  was Rs 106.07 in Noklak. 

In State capital Kohima, it was going for Rs 103.89 a litre, while in commercial capital Dimapur, petrol was selling for Rs 102.89 per litre on October 11. 

According to IANS news agency, the prices of petrol and diesel prices rose again on Monday completing one full week of increases, and taking retail rate to record high levels across the country.

Diesel prices have now increased on 15 out of the last 18 days taking up its retail price by Rs 4.55 per litre in Delhi while petrol prices have also risen on 12 of the previous 14 days taking up its pump price by Rs 3.25 per litre, it said. 

Across the country as well petrol and diesel increased between 30-40 paisa per litre but their retail rates varied depending on the level of local taxes in the state, it added.

The retail prices of fuel are fixed by the oil marketing companies (OMCs) on the basis of 15 days rolling average price of petrol and diesel in the international market while there is also an impact by the rupee dollar exchange rate, according to the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Gas.

Others factors determine the final retail prices including central and state taxes including cess, dealer’s commission, and freight charges, and as a result, prices differs across states or regions.
