HCBA President, CT Jamir said that the Association has been demanding for quite some time to have a separate High Court for the state of Nagaland. “We have also been demanding for appointment of judges from the State because there are so many capable advocates who can be considered for appointment as judges,” he said.
He said that the Gauhati High Court is the common High Court for four states, i.e. Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. “Assam has got the maximum number of judges. Jamir emphasised that there are so many lawyers from Nagaland who can be considered for appointment of judges.
Touching on designation of the senior advocates, Jamir said “So far, there has been a very limited designation of senior advocates.”
He recalled that during the last visit of the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court to Kohima, the Association had submitted a representation to him to consider the appointment of judges from the state of Nagaland and the designation of senior advocates from the state.
Stating that the new High Court building is now almost completed, Jamir said “Only some quarters are yet to be completed. Very soon, we will be shifting to the new High Court site.”
