Dimapur, September 27 (MExN): Several individuals and organizations today mourned the death of MLA Kiyanilie Peseyie and offered condolences to his family. He passed away on September 27 at a private hospital in Dimapur.
Governor: The Governor of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, PB Acharya in a condolence message addressed to Vilekhono Peseyie, wife of the deceased, said that the contributions made by late Kiyanilie for the welfare of the people of Nagaland as a Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 2003 till date and also as State Excise Department official will be remembered forever. “In his demise, people of Nagaland have lost a tall and prominent leader,” the Governor added.
Chief Minister: Having known and worked together with Kiyanilie closely, Chief Minister TR Zeliang considered his death a personal loss. The CM described the late MLA as a God fearing man, straightforward and down to earth. “He not only led an exemplary life but his vision as a leader of the people was truly commendable and an inspiration to us all. It was his rare leadership qualities and personal sacrifices which immensely contributed towards the stability of the NPF led DAN government during the most trying times and also went a long way in strengthening the party in the State,” Zeliang added in a message.
Neiphiu Rio: Member of Parliament Neiphiu Rio stated Kiyanilie was a tall leader who was renowned for his simplicity and humility. “A man of integrity and strong moral character, he stood firmly by the principles in which he believed throughout his life,” Rio said in a condolence note. Kiyanilie, he said, was a dedicated and committed officer, made positive contributions and served the State with dedication during some of the most difficult periods. As Speaker of the NLA, Rio stated the deceased was always neutral, bipartisan and non-controversial in his dealings and decisions. Under his leadership, the NLA broke new ground and created history by instituting the Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) cutting across political party lines, the note added. “The JLF strongly facilitated the Indo-Naga peace process and late Kiyanilie in his capacity as Convenor walked the extra mile in our collective endeavour to find a peaceful solution. He remained committed to this cause till his last day,” the MP stated.
SC Jamir: Governor of Odisha, Dr. SC Jamir remembered Kiyanilie as a tall leader who remained a strong regionalist till his demise. “He was a committed and dedicated politician whose sole aim was to serve the people, and rendered his service for the welfare of the Naga society and his passing away is a great loss to the Naga society,” Jamir said.
Shürhozelie: Naga People's Front (NPF) president, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu said Kiyanilie was one of the most trusted party legislators who took on responsibilities many others hesitated to take up and performed his duties and responsibilities with grace and finesse. A two-time Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (2003 -2013), he was the embodiment of integrity and dignity and the august office of Speaker was alleviated to greatest heights during his tenure, he said. “A humble person by nature, he was a man of few words but he was the personification of honesty, truthfulness and loyalty. Approachable by young and old alike, he was dearly loved by all who had the opportunity of knowing him,” Shürhozelie added.
CL John: MLA CL John stated Kiyanilie was a man of principle and undoubtedly one of the sincere, hardworking and bonafide citizens as well as competent government servant and able political and public leader. His untiring voluntary services to society and individuals will be heartily remembered by one and all, John added.
Kaito Aye: Minister for National Highways, Political Affairs G Kaito Aye said the deceased MLA was a humble and God fearing leader who always strived for the betterment of the society. Calling him a very experienced and great leader, Kaito said in his two terms as NLA Speaker, Kiyanilie upheld the sanctity of the office of the Speaker and maintained the decorum of the house to its best.
Sazo: MLA Chotisuh Sazo acknowledged that in Kiyanilie’s death we have lost a senior legislator who has devoted his service to the people of the state for the past nearly 15 years. “As my predecessor in the NLA as Speaker, he gave adequate time and space to all the legislators to discuss issues of public importance while maintaining high decorum of the house. He was always committed to his task and responsibilities and was a true custodian of the Constitution of India,” Sazo added.
Y Patton: Home Minister Y Patton in a condolence message recollected how Kiyanilie as Convener of the Joint Legislators Forum led all the legislators from Nagaland to Delhi and met the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and other key political leaders urging them to expedite the Naga peace process for an early settlement. It was one of the biggest steps Naga legislators did towards pushing the Naga peace process for an early solution, Patton said. He further said that as NLA Speaker, Kiyanilie’s conduct of the assembly businesses was always impartial and he always kept cordial relationship with all the Members of the House.
Wangyuh Konyak: Former Member of Parliament W. Wangyuh Konyak recalled Kiyanilie as a man of principle, simplicity and God fearing. Wangyuh said through his deeds the deceased MLA had set an example to the younger generation.
AIFFSO: All India Freedom Fighters and Successors Organization (AIFFSO) also expressed that in Kiyanilie’s sudden death “we have lost a great and true leader of the Angamis and Nagas in general.”
AKMWP: The Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) said Kiyanilie was known as a simple and honest politician in his own way. “As part of his electoral constituency falls under the jurisdiction of AKMWP, we are out of words to express our loss and the vacuum created by his demise will be hard to recover,” the Association said in a message.
ASU: The Angami Students' Union (ASU) expressing sadness over the demise said Kiyanilie was known for his abled statesmanship as a politician and a tall father figure.
BJP: The Nagaland State BJP noted Kiyanilie’s long innings in the state politics have left a mark in the development of parliamentary politics in the state and helped usher in a long era of DAN government. Serving the state in different capacities of the government, Kiyanelie had been a strong pillar of democratic values and practices, BJP stated in a message.
Daklane Panchayat: Daklane Panchayat stated Kiyanilie was a political stalwart who was free from involvement in any political controversy. In his 15 years of political journey, he maintained his career in dignity and serenity, upholding the constituency and people he represented, it said in a message. “He was an upright man, close to God at heart even as he walked through the political upheavals.”
ENPO: The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) described Kiyanilie as one of the prominent political leaders and a great human being. “He had dedicated his life working for the welfare of the people of Nagaland, and all people who knew him greatly respected him. His contributions and sacrifices during his leadership for the development and upliftment of the people of Nagaland will be remembered by all,” ENPO stated in a condolence message.
KDCC: The Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) said Kiyanilie was a man of words and a tall leader in politics. His death has caused irreparable loss to the Angami community and Kohima district in particular and the Nagas in general, it added.
NCSU: The Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (NCSU) head office, Kohima in a condolence message maintained that “in his death we lost such a dynamic leader and the vacuum created in his demise can never be filled yet the legacy he left behind will remain with us.”
NPCC: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, K Therie stated Kiyanilie was an honest and faithful government servant and leader who continuously worked for the uplift of the people. It is indeed a sad loss for not only the bereaved family members but also the community and State, he added.
NPF Youth Wing: The NPF Central Youth Wing said Kiyanilie’s untimely death has brought immense loss to the party and the Nagas, when his presence is much needed at this crucial juncture. “His able leadership bestowed with trust and confidence of the people made him win three consecutive General Elections in the Nagaland State Assembly as NPF candidate. His staunch loyal regionalism - standing firm and committed to the NPF Party will be acknowledged and appreciated by one and all,” the youth wing stated.
NPF Dimapur: The NPF Dimapur division termed Kiyanilie as a dedicated and trusted leader loved by all the people. Stating that he remained a staunch regionalist till he breathed his last, the division said his demise is not only a loss to his community but also a great loss for the Naga people.
NPF Minority: President of NPF Minority Wing Central, Bishnu Bhattacharjee on behalf of all the members also expressed condolence at the demise of Kiyanilie. “He will be remembered in the heart of people of Nagaland for his immense contribution as dynamic politician and honest social worker,” he stated.
TSUD: Tenyimi Students’ Union Dimapur (TSUD) described Kiyanilie Peseyie as one of the most sincere leaders not only in politics, but in every field. “Losing a great leader like him has created a big vacuum for the Tenyimi peoples and Nagas in general,” it stated.
WAPO: The Western Angami Public Organization (WAPO) said as the sitting MLA representing the 8th Western Angami Assembly constituency and a dependable elder of the area, Kiyanilie’s death is a great loss. He was an advisor to the Planning and Development Committee of WAPO, and his continued and unflinching support to various programmes and initiatives of WAPO had been generously encouraging, progressive and equally tremendous, it added.
WAYO: The Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO) mentioned Kiyanilie was an upright and straightforward person. He was also a benevolent father figure for the WAYO, it stated, adding in his demise WAYO has lost a great leader and a friend of the youth.
