The MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity project funded by USAID in partnership with Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland hosted a co-creation workshop for adapting Human-Centered Design (HCD) on strengthening Routine Immunization (RI) at Hotel Vivor, Kohima on May 16. The State officials and the teams from Tinkerlabs and M-Rite, Egumsing, State Project Manager, John Snow India (JSI) briefly introduced the participants and welcome note was given by Dr Imkongtemsu, State Immunization Officer, Nagaland. Olivia Nava, Design & Strategy Consultant, M-RITE stressed on the significance of HCD work for strengthening on the demand for RI and gave a brief overview of M-RITE’s experience on the field. The programme was attended by Medical Officials of the District of Kohima & Officials from Directorate of Health & Family Welfare.
Maj Gen Manish Kumar, SM, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR-North) today called on Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at Kohima. During the interaction, the Inspector General of Assam Rifles briefed Rio on the overall security situation in Nagaland and also apprised him of the various civic initiatives undertaken for the well-being of the people. Rio was highly appreciative of the “Centre of Excellence” being run by Assam Rifles at Chieswema, Kohima where children are mentored and empowered for the prestigious JEE and NEET exams. 100% success was achieved last year with 32 students clearing the competitive exams. A total of 37 students are being trained in the current year. The programme was held in the conference Hall of NLA Secretariat on May 16. The Speaker in his speech extended gratitude to the CPA for trusting and according him with such responsibility and he believes that “through collective effort, all tasks that lies ahead would be tackled efficiently.” He urged all the officers and staff of the NLA to continue to work collectively and propel towards setting spectacular standards and he is certain that through the cooperation of the Deputy Speaker by his side, they would achieve all the objectives.Workshop on RI Micro Planning and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Surveillance for Mokokchung District was held at conference hall of the CMO office, Mokokchung on May 16. Keeping in view of the prevalence of vaccine hesitancy behaviour, partially vaccinated (dropout) and zero dose children (left out), the trainees were trained on ways to reach 100% vaccination by identifying gaps, developing a proper microplan and identifying all due children with proper headcount survey. The trainees were also trained on Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD). Resource persons were Dr Shiela Longkumer SMO (WHO) Kohima, Dr Mhechekhro RRT (WHO) and Dr Pangjung SBCC (UNICEF) Kohima. The training was attended by Medical Officers, CHOs, DPM, BPMs, DCM, BACs, EM (WHO) and IEC personnel. During a brief opening ceremony welcome address was given by Joniibemo Odyuo, Assistant Manager, NSDMA and the key note address was given by Neidilhou Keditsu, Director, Economics & Statistics while vote of thank was proposed by Charles N Kikon, Addl. Director Economics & Statistics. The topics for the two day workshop to be included are Guidelines on Disaster Data Collection, Gender Statistics in Disaster Management, Disaster Situation Report etc.Transborder Indigenous People (TIP), an organisation of cross border Naga community and comprising of Nagas living in Myanmar and India “today resolved to oppose scrapping of FMR and the proposed border fencing across Naga areas at the Indo-Myanmar borders.” A press issued by Leiyolan Vashum, Co ordinator, TIP stated that the aim of the organisation is “to strengthen the family ties of the Naga people who are straddled by an international boundary.” TIP in its meeting in Ukhrul on May 16 also resolved that “the organisation shall do whatever is democratically possible to pressure both the government of India and Myanmar not to further divide the Naga family.” Seth Shatsang and Leiyolan Vashum were unanimously elected as the Co-ordinators of the organisation.
