Sanitation vehicle attendants of a ward in Kohima collecting door-to-door wastes on April 14 last. An attendant in the picture informed that they work 5 days in a week to cover 3 colonies under that ward. It is also apparent that they are not provided substandard masks and gloves. “For this, we have approached our Sanitation committee but nothing is provided. We merely use for the sake of using and don’t know if it is effective.” He also hinted that collection of wastes will be halted. While raising the issue with the KMC Administrator, Kovi Meyase commented that “nothing much can be done unless government intervenes and provide.” “There’s only so much more that a small municipality like us can do.” These silent group of people working tirelessly acting as first and primary line of defence for us against the coronavirus, it is imperative to ensure their safety and provide them basic gears which otherwise is extremely difficult and expensive to acquire.
