Nagaland: NPCB directs healthcare facilities on bio-waste management

Dimapur, March 10 (MExN): The Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) has directed all health care facilities in Nagaland to comply with the Bio-Medical Waste Management (BMW) Rules, 2016, and its amendments by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change.

In a notification, the Board stated that the Environment Protection Act under Rule 4 mandates all health care facilities — both government and private — to obtain authorisation or renewal from the prescribed authority, which is the NPCB in the case of Nagaland.

Further, it stipulated that all bedded health care facilities must install an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) within six months and comply with the output discharge standards for liquid waste as per Schedule II (8) of the BMW Rules, 2016, from the date of issue of the notification.

All non-bedded occupiers must dispose of infectious liquid wastes only after proper treatment by disinfection, as per Schedule II (6) of the BMW Rules, 2016, added the notification issued by K Hukato Chishi, Member Secretary, NPCB.
