Over 2000 people have so far been traced in the “containment zone” in Dimapur since the first COVID-19 positive case was reported on April 12. It includes people, who were exposed to the patient, either directly or indirectly.
According to a Health Department official, house-to-house survey was started after the containment zone was sealed off and the contact tracing will continue.
Of the 2000-plus people, around 50 were deemed to be “primary contacts” and the rest “secondary contacts.” The primary contacts have been placed under observation in quarantine facilities.
None of the contacts, who were exposed, directly or indirectly, have tested positive thus far. However, the official said, “We will have to take precautions based on the existing (preventive) protocol” unless the government decides to amend the existing protocol.
Meanwhile, an inquiry as to the circumstances that resulted in the patient being referred to Guwahati on the night of April 11 is on. A week later, information remains vague as to what happened but the official said that the District Hospital, Dimapur has been told to submit a report.
While the government may be caught up with ensuring precautionary measures currently, the official said that it does not imply the government is ignoring the case.
