DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 15 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has issued a damage assessment report stating that extreme monsoon weather from September 8 to 14 has caused extensive destruction across the state. Reports received by the NSDMA detail damages to houses, roads, bridges and paddy fields in multiple districts.
According to the report, Chümoukedima district suffered heavy damage at several locations. The Pagla Pahar stretch (CH126) was washed away by a mudslide, cutting off the road completely. Heavy mudslides were also reported from Old Chümoukedima Check Gate, while rising water levels in the Chathe River affected several houses. The bridge between Chümoukedima and Seithekema was completely destroyed. Flooding was reported from Chümoukedima Ward 10, TL Angami Park and Virazouma village, while landslides were also reported along the New Chümoukedima bypass road and waterlogging from Army Camp, Shokhuvi.

In Shamator district, a landslide at ADC Ward Road damaged the fencing wall of the BSNL Tower, posing a threat of communication line disruption.
Peren district reported a landslide between Saijang village and Mangleu bridge. Multiple landslides were also reported along the Shokhuvi-Pimla-Mhainamtsi road where debris clearance was carried out. Eleven houses were affected at Bana Ward, Peren, Old Peren Town.
In Meluri district, a major mudslide occurred at 16 Kilo leaving travellers stranded. Mercy Bridge was reported to be on the verge of collapsing and has been declared unsafe. A mudslide along Akhewgo road disrupted traffic movement.
Dimapur district reported flooding and waterlogging from Vilhume colony, SM colony, East Police colony, Namgalong colony, Ragailong colony and Kuda village.

Kohima district reported several landslides from Kigwema-Mima-Chakhabama road, Kehorii (NH-29) Jakhama, Jotsoma-Khonoma road, Viswema-Kidima-Pfutsero road, Tsiesema road, Phesama and Old KMC dumping site.
In Noklak district, road blockades were reported from Kingpao village and between Tsuwao and Pathso. Landslides were reported at Kusong village and a mudslide near Zunki (Noklak-Nokhu). One kutcha house was reportedly damaged by a landslide at Danlepdong Ward. The temporary wooden bridge between Noklak and Lingnyu was washed away by flood.
Tuensang district reported that the road between Angangba and Tuensang (NH202) was blocked by a landslide. The road in Hakchang village was completely cut off and the Longkhim road was also cut off by a landslide.
In Mokokchung district, 16 families at Chungtia village were affected by a landslide, with one family relocated for safety measures. In Mongsenbai Ward, one kutcha house was severely damaged due to the collapse of a retaining wall. Two houses were damaged by landslides at Alempang Ward and Aongza Ward respectively. A retaining wall below DC Residence, Sangtemla Ward also collapsed. Road blockades were reported from Japukong road, Khar village road, Chungtia village and Changki village. Heavy rain washed away part of NH-702D along the Mokokchung-Mariani road.
Zunheboto district reported road blockades between Zhekiya and Satakha.
In Wokha district, the road below Governor’s Camp was completely cut off. Several plantation areas were damaged by landslides at Changpang village.
In Kiphire district, two residential houses at Mission Ward Pungro and Kipongya Ward Kiphire were reported damaged. Road blockades were reported at Zisaji College and Mission Ward.
Tseminyu district reported landslides at Ward 3, Ward 8, Tseminyu New Town and Sendenyu village. Four houses were damaged by landslides at Ward 8, Tseminyu town and families had to be evacuated to safety.
The NSDMA stated that, as of the time of filing this report, the concerned District Disaster Management Authorities had initiated debris and road clearance, evacuation of flood and landslide affected families and distribution of relief materials. “The NSDMA in collaboration with the PWD (NH) (R&B) is working on a war footing to ensure connectivity to the State capital via Pimla-Mhainamtsi/Niuland-Ghutovi-Zhadima,” the release said. It added that the Home Department will continue to closely monitor the developing weather situation “to avoid major disasters during this monsoon season.”
