NDPP welcomes constructive criticism, calls for unity

DIMAPUR, APRIL 14 (MExN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has welcomed constructive criticism from the people, organisations and various political parties but stated that the present pandemic has taken the world by surprise and even the advanced affected nations have been dealing with treating the infected cases on trial and error basis learning along the way.

A press release from the NDPP stated that the lockdown imposed by the Government of India since March 24 has proven to be a most effective mechanism till now in “somewhat containing” the pandemic in the country. It therefore asked all citizens of the state continue to observe this lockdown till further notice.

It further appreciated the efforts of the State government to work on a war footing to ensure that the state is prepared to deal with this pandemic.

“Without a doubt, just as the world was caught unawares, so also was Nagaland, and much is yet to be done. However, the government by promptly ensuring the airlifting of four consignments of medical equipment’s to the state despite the shortage of PPEs and other essential medical equipment’s not only in India but globally too needs to be commended,” it said.

It also appreciated the sacrifices being made by all medical and frontline workers who are tireless working to keep the State prepared.

The NDPP meanwhile acknowledged the concern on the lack of a testing facility as brought out by the Leader of the Opposition.

“We should be aware that to have a Bio Safety Level (BSL) 3/4 laboratory in the State, it needs the approval of the Government of India” it said, adding that due to lack of a functional Medical College, the requests were being denied in the past.

However, feeling the urgency, on the initiatives of the State Government, the Government of India has accorded necessary approvals for the setting up of BSL labs in Kohima and Dimapur, the party stated.  A team of experts are already in the State to assess the locations and the first consignment of equipments for such labs arriving shortly, it said.  While welcoming constructive criticism, the NDPP asked all political parties and organisations to “shirk our differences and political agendas in the spirit of unity and togetherness as one family to fight for humanity against this pandemic.”
