No “plastic rice” in Dimapur

Dimapur, September 22 (MExN): The Dimapur district administration, on receipt of complaints from “some quarter” about the alleged sale of “plastic rice” in Dimapur, conducted verification and collected samples from the wholesale as well as retail dealers of rice in and around the town. On testing the collected samples, no “plastic rice” as alleged was found in any of the samples collected. Hence, the DC Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome in a press release has informed the general public that as of now, any doubt or apprehension regarding the sale of “plastic rice” in and around Dimapur town may be ruled out.  

KPC condemns killing of Tripura journalist

Kohima, September 22 (MExN): The Kohima Press Club (KPC) today expressed shock at the brutal murder of a television journalist Santanu Bhowmik near Agartala in Tripura on Wednesday while discharging his journalistic duty, covering a road blockade. “The KPC condemns the heinous act which was carried out to silence the voice of free press and brings to question the safety and security of journalists in a country that widely professes freedom of press,” stated a press release from KPC general secretary, Alice Yhoshü and president, Xavier Rutsa. The Press Club urged the government of Tripura to perform a thorough probe into the killing and deliver justice. The KPC further expressed solidarity to its Agartala counterpart and also conveyed heartfelt condolences to bereaved family.  

KCSU general session today

Kohima, September 22 (MExN):The Kohima Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) will hold its 56th general session cum freshers social on September 23, 10:00 am at State Academy Hall, Kohima. Kevileno Epao, OSD Planning & Coordination, ex-officio director, evaluation department and Vezuhü Keyho, principal, Capital College of Higher Education, Kohima will be the speaker of the session.  

Young Athletes Implementation Seminar

Dimapur, September 22 (MExN): Young Athletes Implementation Seminar will be held at Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur on September 23 from 9:30 am with resource person from Special Olympics Bharat, National Office. SON Honorary Area Director, RC Arenla Tzudir in a press release has requested all the teachers, parents of special children and NGO workers for PwDs to attend the same. Following the seminar, SON coaches will visit the schools to give weekly skill improvement training.  

AR apprehend alleged arms dealer

Dimapur, September 22 (MExN): Troops of 36 Assam Rifles apprehended an alleged arms dealer on September 21 at Naharbari village, Dimapur. One .22 mm pistol with magazine, one 12 Bore Shot Gun, one pistol magazine, eight live rounds of 12 Bore Shot Gun and 15 fired cases cartridges (Shot Gun) were recovered from the accused identified as Inavi Achumi (34), according to a press release from Lt Col Amitabh Sharma, PRO, HQ IGAR (North). The apprehended person alongwith the recovered arms and ammunition was handed over to East Police Station, Dimapur for further investigation. The 36 AR had launched the operation along with police representative based on specific information regarding presence of an arms dealer in the area, the release added.  

32 held under NLTP Act

Dimapur, September 22 (MExN): The District Excise personnel under Superintendent of Excise, Dimapur arrested 32 offenders under the NLTP Act ’89 and accordingly recovered 1250 bottles of IMFL from September 5 to 20. The arrests and recoveries were made during routine frisking and patrolling duty in Dimapur Town and while manning the Excise check gate in Chumukedima, according to a release from T Arilong Longkumer, Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur. In this connection, 15 vehicles were also seized for illegal trafficking of IMFL. All the offenders were booked under the NLTP Act and the cases compounded by the departmental authority, it added. The Dimapur Excise has appealed to the general public for proactive cooperation and report any illegal activity of liquor and contraband drugs to the authority.
