Guwahati, March 26 (MExN): Senior officials from the Lumding division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) organised meetings with the State Government officials of the Gomati and West Tripura districts on March 24.

The meetings were held to discuss cheaper transportation solution for produces of Tripura, informed an official NFR release.  

The meeting with the officials of the Gomati was held at its district headquarter, Udaipur where 14 people participated including the district ADM(G) Pankaj Chakraborty; officials from Rubber Board, Forest, Fisheries,  and Horticulture departments; and  merchants, attended. 

Area Manager, NFR Badarpur gave a presentation on various schemes of freight and parcel business offered by Indian Railways for the benefit of various stakeholders, the release said.  

During the post presentation discussion, KH Nassar, Deputy Rubber Production Commissioner (I/C), Rubber Board, Udaipur informed that Gomati district produced around 15,645 Metric Tons (MT) of rubber in 2021 and as per demands, some were being transported by roadways to places like Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Delhi and Goa.

The meeting with the officials of the West Tripura district was held at Agartala same day where department of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rubber Board and merchants apart from the ADM of the district attended. 

After the presentation by the NFR officials, Arunabha Majumdar, GM, Manimalayar Rubber Pvt. Ltd., where informed that last year total rubber production in Tripura State was 90714 MT and is likely to cross 1 lakh MT this year. 

Gopal Malla, Dy Director, Horticulture also said Tripura has a potential of transporting 10MT of pineapple per week and such items can be transported through refrigerated container because of lesser shelf life.

The NFR officials also told the state representatives about various activities and facilities being made available for the improvement of the local economy by providing cheaper mode of transportation through railways, the release said. 

Among others, the official informed the meeting that farmers can transport agricultural produce directly to all parts of the country through Kisan Rail services, where 50% subsidy is provided for transportation of fruits and vegetables.
