NHAK COVID-19 Hospital highlights preparedness

COVID ICU at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK). The hospital has been designated as COVID-19 Hospital.

Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) which has been designated as COVID-19 Hospital, today highlighted its preparedness for combating COVID-19 pandemic.
Talking to media persons after conducting first mock drill on COVID-19, Dr Sendimeren Aonok, Public Information Officer, NHAK said that said that 80 to 90% of works has been completed for this designated COVID-19 Hospital. He informed that that 67 bed is ready as of now at NHAK COVID-19 Hospital.
Mock drill on COVID -19
Dr. Aonok stated that Mock Drill which started today will be done on regular basis so that everything is carried out with efficiency and systematically.
“Till the patient come, we will continue to do mock drill,” he said.
The mock drill is being conducted on social distancing, registration, donning, hand wash, mask to patient, patient screening, doffing, counseling, waste management/laundry, ambulance transfers, sample collection, quarantine/ admission, enforcement of safety measures for patients, etc.
Man power
NHAK has a strength of 500 manpower at present.
NHAK in it has action plan has work out mechanism on health care workers on duty depending on the numbers of patients.
It has set aside ward and quarter for Health Care Workers during their works/duty in this hospital.
NHAK have already come out with work distribution on various aspects- training, biomedical waste management, safety logistics, disinfection and cleanliness of wards, OPD and ward, ICU, emergency surgical teams, security, triage counseling, transports and communication, ambulance and quarantines medical supply, food catering water supply and electricity etc etc.
Installation of IT facilities
The Action Plan of NHAK on COVID- 19 stated that gadget such as CCTV cameras and intercom facilities will be installed at strategic points in order to reduce chances of transmission/enforcement of safety measures and reduction of use of PPE.
PA systems have been put in place to give common instructions/counseling/ meditational or recreational music to patients in the wards.
TVs will also be installed in the Emergency Operational Centre and treating team lodging area for news updates and recreation.
‘We are prepared’
The Action Plan stated that as and when 50% of bed strength of Chedema COVID- 19 Hospital is filled up with COVID positive patients for treatment, NHAK COVID-19 Hospital will be put on Red Alert.
The admission in NHAK shall begin after Chedema COVID 19 Hospital admission reaches 100%, the Action plan stated. Dr. Aonok stated that if any eventuality arises, “we are prepared for that.”
The Action Plan stated that all serious cases related to COVID-19 shall be shifted/admitted to NHAK ICU. This ICU has been converted into COVID ICU.
