No evidence of governance or development in Nagaland: AICC

Dimapur, February 12 (MExN): The AICC Media Coordinator for Nagaland, Sujata Paul, on Sunday criticized the BJP-NDPP government in the state and the BJP government at the center for their lack of answers on several pressing issues in the state.

In a press statement issued on February 12, Paul highlighted the BJP's "double speak" on minorities is out in the open.

Referring to a recent demand put forward by the Janjati Dharm Sanskriti Suraksha Manch, an organization that operates in Assam, with regard to “delisting” of tribal Christians or revoking the Constitutional rights bestowed on Scheduled Tribe communities, who have converted to other faiths other than Hinduism, she stated that the BJP, “Simply stating that they have no connection with Janjati Dharm Sanskriti Suraksha Manch is not enough.”

Paul questioned why the BJP not taken any action against the organisation when they are deliberately trying to polarise and create bad blood in the run up to the elections.

Paul also questioned the BJP's stand on the Uniform Civil Code, which the party supports and has implemented in BJP-ruled states like Gujarat and Uttarakhand. She asked whether the BJP intends to abrogate Nagaland's special status under Article 371A to implement the UCC and whether the party considers Nagaland as part of India.

The statement also raised several other questions, such as the delay in completing the High Court building, the State Stadium of Dimapur, and the Government Medical Colleges. Questioning why the urban department funded construction of a mall on forest department land, it accused the government of “corruption and criminal, wasteful expenditure.”

Paul also questioned the lack of water and power supply in the state, the absence of roads in many areas, and the neglect of Eastern Nagaland by the BJP government. She also criticized the BJP's failure to deliver on its 2018 election slogan of "Election for Solution," despite being in power for 5 years.

Further, she also noted that the assets of Chief Minster Neiphiu Rio have increased by Rs 10.54 crore in 5 years with allegations of corruption on him, and questioned why there has been no investigation by ED, CBI or Income Tax department.

“There is no evidence of governance or development in Nagaland. BJP likes to check the inside of every booth while Congress respects the Election Commission and lets them do their job while our workers stand with the people of Nagaland so that we can solve their problems when we come to power,” the statement read.
