NSCN (IM) flays assault on doctors

Dimapur, April 22 (MExN):  The NSCN (IM) today condemned the assault on doctors by Nagaland Police on April 3 in Dimapur and April 17 at Wokha.

In a press release, the NSCN (IM) Health Ministry said that the frontline warriors in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic across the world,  are the doctors, nurses and other medical staffs, and it is the bounden duty of the police force to protect the health workers.

It said that state security machineries and personnel that represent the law and order implementing force are to protect the people, high and low and not take law and order into their hands as per their whims. “This point ought to be thoroughly understood by every single police personnel on duty. In the given situation the fight is against the infectious Covid-19. But, when the frontline workers are attack it became a mockery of our fight against Covid-19,” said the release issued by Dr A Yanthan,Kilonser, Ministry of Health, NSCN (IM).

Appealing to the police personnel on duty to be more humane and professional like the health professional themselves, the release stated that health workers are the asset of the Naga society and more so under the present situation when the fight against COVID-19 is enforced on war footing.

“Police forces who are equally part of the society should not take the liberty to go overboard in the name of doing their duty,” it added.

The release expressed sympathy and solidarity to Dr Nosezol Sezo and Dr Mongshithung Murry as well as the entire medical fraternity.

Further, it reminded all that the pandemic COVID-19 is a global issue that does not respect boundary nor age or sex, and that the fight demands cooperation and understanding from each other and support those frontline warriors. The Government and its work forces are trying their best, despite the limited resources and logistics in their disposal, it added.

Till the time when the vaccination and scientific remedy is available before us, everything remains unpredictable, it said while urging all to follow the protocols laid down by the Government and stay at home.
