DIMAPUR, JUNE 4 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Vusshe) has condemned the reported sexual assault and physical abuse of a minor girl in Dimapur and also expressed concern over the continuing violence and communal tensions between Kuki and Southern Naga communities in Manipur.
In separate press statements issued on June 4 through its Ministry of Information and Publicity, the NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Vusshe) described the assault on the minor girl as an act that violates the rights, dignity and security of a child.
Stating that it was "profoundly shocked and deeply concerned" by the reported incident, it expressed solidarity with the victim and her family and urged the authorities to ensure that she receives "comprehensive medical treatment, psychological counseling, rehabilitation support, and adequate protection to safeguard her well-being and future."
It further called on investigating agencies to conduct a "prompt, impartial, transparent, and thorough investigation" and ensure that all those responsible, including accomplices, are identified and brought to justice while safeguarding the victim's dignity, privacy and welfare.
The NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Vusshe) also sought the strictest action against the accused and any others found complicit, stating that there should be "no room for impunity in cases involving violence against minors and children."
Calls for peace in Manipur
Meanwhile, it expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Manipur involving Kuki and Southern Naga communities, stating that reports of killings, abductions, forced displacement and attacks on essential services were deeply disturbing.
It condemned "the killings, abductions and other acts of violence" that have targeted innocent civilians, destroyed homes and livelihoods, and affected families and communities.
According to the statement, the repeated targeting of civilians has created fear, instability and hardship in the region, adding that the protection of civilians must remain a priority.
The NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Vusshe) stated that those responsible for the "Killing and Abductions of the Innocent Civilians" must be promptly identified and held accountable through transparent and impartial investigations.
It also maintained that immediate steps are needed to prevent further reprisals, communal polarisation and retaliatory attacks that could prolong suffering and destabilise the region.
Calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Vusshe) urged community leaders and relevant authorities to re-engage in direct, mediated dialogue to address grievances and restore peace.
It further appealed to the concerned authorities to act impartially, ensure the protection of civilians and prevent attempts by vested interests to aggravate the situation.
While acknowledging that the issues underlying the conflict are complex and rooted in questions of identity and governance, the NSCN/GPRN (Khango-Vusshe) maintained that "the targeted killing and abduction of civilians can never be justified."
