NSCPCR conducting several activities to protect child rights

The Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) has been conducting several activities to fulfill its mandate to protect the rights of children in the state. 

The Annual Administrative Report 2019-2020 of the Social Welfare Department, Nagaland informed of the various activities taken up by the commission over the course of the year. 

The NSCPCR was established under Section 17 of the commission for Protection of Child Rights Act 2005 by the Government of Nagaland in 2013.

The act empowers the commission to act as a court to undertake suo-motu enquiry and also look into complaints related to deprivation and violation of child rights and non- implementation of laws for protection and development of children.

The Annual Administrative Report stated that during 2019-2020, the commission, as assigned by the Act, has conducted seminar/workshops in various districts and also inspected a number of child care institutes in the state.

It further informed that various other programmes such as consultation on prevention and bringing an end to child sex abuse have been conducted at Kohima in conjunction with World Vision, India.

Also, in collaboration with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, a sitting was held in Kiphire district to hear complaints and implementation of the Child Rights Act, the report stated.

Among others, a one day review meeting and consultation on available schemes and services for malnourished and stunted children in high prevalent districts of Nagaland was conducted in Dimapur and Kohima districts.
