NSDMA issues monsoon weather advisory for Nagaland

  DIMAPUR, JUNE 20 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) today issued a weather advisory in light of the monsoon season.   According to the NSDMA weather analysis, districts like Peren, Kohima, Longleng and Tuensang will likely have heavy rainfall at isolated places from June 20 to 24. Wokha, Phek and Tuensang will most likely receive heavy rainfall at isolated places on June 23. The NSDMA also informed that districts like Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Longleng, Tuensang and Kiphire will receive heavy rainfall at isolated places on June 24.   With the onset of Monsoon rains, on and off erratic nature of rains have already started over several parts of the state. In the coming days, Nagaland can expect moderate to heavy rains across many parts, it added.   According to NSDMA weather analysis, rains would mostly occur in evenings and night during this monsoon. Waxing and waning of Monsoon rains is considered to be normal.   However, it was also informed that the North East India region including Nagaland is most likely to record deficient rainfall this year as per the weather pattern analysis and forecast of NSDMA. Weather models are indicating that the region is likely to have deficient rainfall by 10% to 15%.   Northeast India including Nagaland witnesses Monsoon rains for four months ranging from June to September. Nagaland is one of the few states that witness the onset of Monsoon in the first week of June.   The state of Nagaland records an average rainfall to the tune of 400 mm in the month of June. The rainfall over Nagaland depends upon on the Monsoon systems forming in Bay of Bengal. As per NSDMA weather forecast 3-4 weather systems is expected to form in Bay of Bengal during the month.   Unlike other areas, Nagaland witnesses rain when there is a weather system formation in the Bay of Bengal. The state witnesses 12-13 numbers of rainy days, out of which 7-8 days witnessed heavy rains.
