Kohima, September 27 (MExN): Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) was represented by 17 Judges comprising of District Secretaries and Chairpersons at the Regional Meet of State Legal Services Authorities for North Eastern Region held at State Convention Center, Shillong on September 27. Justice LS Jamir, Judge Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench as the Executive Chairman of NSLSA accompanied the team.   A first of its kind event in the region, hosted by Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, it was attended by all the District Secretaries and Chairpersons from all the North East States.   In the inaugural address, Justice Ranjan Gogoi pointed out that the Secretaries and Chairpersons working at district level in Justice Service are the ones who deal at the grassroots level and they execute the actual implementation of various Legal Services Schemes for the weaker sections by making direct one-to-one contact with many unseen faces.   Emphasizing the need for the legal services institution to reach out to even more people who are living below the poverty line, he highlighted the statistics on International Poverty Line and people of India living below the poverty line, a press release from NSLSA said.   Gogoi further stated that access to justice does not necessarily mean having access to Courts. He therefore underscored the need to seriously debate and review in this context and think to go beyond the Legal Services Schemes, while raising the question of expanding and doing something more in the context of Legal Services as defined in the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987.   The purpose of the Regional Meet, he said, is to discuss face to face with the District Secretaries and Chairpersons to understand the ground realities and the progress of the Legal Services in order to achieve greater success in delivering Legal Service.   The Regional Meet commenced with the inaugural session, followed by two technical sessions.
