NU observes Constitution Day

Zunheboto, November 27 (MExN): Nagaland University (NU) HQ organized a lecture on November 26 to observe the Constitution Day of India.

Prof. H. John Sema, Department of Political Science dwelt on the importance of Fundamental Duties. He said that only through the 42nd Amendment of the Constitution of India in 1976, fundamental duties were added as Article 51A under part IV of Constitution.

He explained in detail all the 11 Fundamental Duties. Among others, the Fundamental Duties include abiding by the Constitution and respecting the National Flag and the National Anthem, as well as striving towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity, so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement.

He pointed out that unlike the Fundamental Rights, the Fundamental Duties are not enforceable by law, informed a press release from PRO, Nagaland University, Peter Ki. Nevertheless, Fundamental Duties make it the moral obligation of every citizen to do one’s duty and carry out responsibilities to the best of their abilities towards fulfillment of the goals set out in the Constitution of India.

He stated that most of the time citizens think only of rights forgetting duties and responsibilities. He ended his lecture by asserting that if one gives their best in their duties, even when others are not doing so, they will be rewarded.

The lecture came to a close with a pledge taken by the university fraternity, including Prof. T. Lanusosang, Registrar, Prof. MK. Sinha, Finance Officer, and Dr. Krishna K. Upadhyay, Director, College Development Council.
