2nd graduation ceremony of School of Nursing DHD held

Morung Express News Dimapur | June 21   Minister for Health & Family Welfare, S Pangnyuh Phom today said nurses have an incredible opportunity to make a difference in somebody’s life every day they go to work.   “How do you impact the lives of your patients? You impact their lives with your voice. Nurses have power in their voice and when we execute that power, we can change the course of somebody’s life”, the Minister said.   Addressing the 2nd graduation ceremony of School of Nursing - cum - Late Ketsovole Kire’s 16th annual award ceremony here at District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) on Thursday, Pangnyuh said nurses have to exercise their God-gifted voice as well as create a healing and healthy work environment to extend best service to the patients.   “Remember that you are blessed. Remember that in exchange for those blessings, you must give something back. Service is the rent we pay for living...it is the true measure, the only measure of success. I can’t think of a better profession that truly amplifies these quotes than nursing”, he said.   The Minister also said nurses are expected to be selfless and care more about their patients than themselves. “As a nurse, it is an expectation that you go above and beyond your patients and sometimes their families at the expense of your own needs. But, I promise you this....the blessings you give to your patient will be returned to you tenfold. You have an incredible opportunity to make a difference in somebody’s life every day that you go to work”, Pangnyuh added.   On the district hospital, he said Dimapur being the nerve centre of Nagaland, the hospital should play a vital role in providing health care services to myriad communities and sections of people living in Dimapur. The Minister said since DHD has enough facilities and manpower, the hospital authority and staff should put in all efforts to encourage patients to come to the hospital for treatment.   Advisor, Rural Development, Dr. Nicky Kire, MLA, who also spoke on the occasion congratulated the nurses on their graduation and said now they should be ready to serve in different locations, including even abroad. He also said if nurses are to serve in cities or abroad, they should have three additional qualifications – command of English language, be computer literate and know how to drive a vehicle.   Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur, Dr. Vikato Kinimi, said nurses can be considered as “angels on earth”. On a lighter note, the CMO said nurses can be grouped in two categories, “heaven’s angels” (nurses who are compassionate, caring and hospitable) and “devil’s angels” (nurses who are rude and indifferent). Vikato urged the new graduate nurses to be in the first category.   Joint Director (Nursing), H&FW, Ch. Henia officiated the graduation ceremony. A family member of Late Kesovole Kire, a pioneer Naga nurse, gave a brief introduction on the former and the award. P Mannon, the Nagaland GNM topper of 2018, who received this year’s award also spoke during the occasion.   Earlier, Medical Superintendent, DHD, Dr. Z Kheshito Zhimo, delivered the welcome address and Principal, School of Nursing DHD, Nepralü Keyho, proposed the vote of thanks.
