Longleng, April 5 (MExN): The Phom Monyu Tribal festival day-two was graced by Advisor Tourism, Art & Culture, H Khehovi Sumi, as special guest at local ground, Longleng on April 6.
Calling upon the Phom community ‘to promote and preserve the rich culture and traditions of our ancestors to protect our identity,’ the Advisor exhorted them to observe the festival to promote their identity and to educate the younger generation.
According to a DIPR report, maintaining that every Naga tribe have their own diverse festival, dialect and attires but bound by Christianity as our religion is the greatest gift and blessings to us. “The rich culture and unique tradition is the beauty of the Nagas,” he added.
“We are rich in our culture therefore, we have big prospective to promote tourism in our state. Promoting tourism through festivals would generate big income at our door step and improve our economy,” he stated.
Chief Host Manpai Phom, ADC Tseminyu and president Phom Gazette Officers’ Association delivered the Monyu greetings. The Festival Host, BS Nganlang Phom, MLA & Chairman DPDB, Longleng pronounced the festival blessing. Solidarity speeches were proposed by Tsapikyu Sangtam, President ENPO and Nungsanglemba, President CKS.
The highlights of the festival were beating of Log drum by Tangha village, Culture Dance by Hukphang Nyula, Pongo Union, Jakphang village, Yachem Unionla, Longleng Sadar and Yongnyah block. Traditional Competition includes Tug of war by 12 wards of Longleng, Still Bamboo Walking, Grain Grinding, Pottery Making, Blacksmith, Handicraft and Mat making.
Earlier, invocation was proposed by Rev. Beau Phom, Pastor Longleng Town Baptist Church and welcome address by chief Host W Manpai Phom, ADC Tseminyu & President Phom Gazetted Officer's Association followed by Monyu Greetings by Deputy Commissioner Longleng M Shayung Phom.
