Palliative Care Centre at Impur Christian Hospital

Mokokchung, September 28 (MExN): As an endeavour in the healing Ministry of the ABAM, a Palliative Care Centre was launched at the Impur Christian Hospital by Imkong L Imchen, Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Election, Government of Nagaland on September 28.  

The Centre is dedicated in the memory of Dr. Uzelie Peseyie, the first Naga Doctor at the Impur Christian Hospital during 1935-36. Dr. Sashimeren Aier, Chairman, Board of Trustee, Impur Christian Hospital in a press release stated that Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of terminally ill patients and their families. Experts estimate that 80% cancer patients, 50-80% AIDS patients, 38.5% cardiovascular disease patients and 10.3% chronic respiratory disease patients will not only need relief from pain and other physical problems during the course of their illnesses but also psychological, social and spiritual support, thereby promoting dignity, quality of life and adjustment to progressive illnesses.  

The centre will initially have six dedicated and well equipped cabins. The Minister appealed to all to avail the facility which is the first of its kind in the State.
