PCJ condemns former pastor accused of sexual misconduct

Dimapur, October 6 (MExN): Project Constitutional Justice (PCJ) has issued a condemnation regarding allegations of sexual assault against one Robert Kikon, a former senior pastor of Father's House Church in Chümoukedima. The organization, based in Tuensang, emphasized the serious nature of these allegations, particularly as they involve minors, which constitutes a severe violation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

PCJ highlighted that under Section 21 of the POCSO Act, failure to report such offenses is itself a punishable offense, underscoring the legal duty to protect children. The organization called for the preservation of the victims' identities and urged both the government and local civil society organizations to take necessary measures to safeguard their well-being.

The organization stressed the need for proactive steps to prevent similar incidents in the future, advocating for awareness campaigns and educational initiatives that promote reporting of abuse and reinforce children’s rights.

PCJ also urged the authorities to ensure swift prosecution of the accused, demand accountability, and consider stronger legal reforms that would impose harsher penalties for such offenses. Recognizing the importance of psychological support for survivors, the organization called for immediate assistance to aid their recovery and uphold their dignity.

Further, PCJ raised concerns over the possibility of undetected offenders within both government and civil society organizations, encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and report any such cases. "A safer Nagaland for our children depends on our collective efforts and alertness," the organization stated.
